$36.00My dear friends,
For many years, through Toras Avigdor, we have shared Rav Avigdor Miller's teachings with hundreds of thousands of Jews around the world. We have learned from him what truly matters, what lasts forever, and what opportunities a person should grab while he still can.
In one lecture, Rav Miller spoke passionately about the tremendous merit of helping even one Jewish woman go to the mikvah. He described a righteous woman who once gathered a carload of Jewish women and brought them to the mikvah. Rav Miller exclaimed that even if it happened only once in their lives, the achievement was enormous. "We have no idea," he said, "how great this is going to be."
Think about that.
One woman.
One visit.
One mitzvah.
And Rav Miller tells us that we cannot imagine its value.
Now imagine a mikvah that will serve thousands of Jewish women every year.
Imagine generations of mothers and daughters using it.
Imagine marriages strengthened, Jewish homes elevated, and countless mitzvos performed because a beautiful, welcoming mikvah stood ready to receive them.
That is the opportunity before us today.
Here in Staten Island, a community of approximately 3,000 observant families depends on a mikvah that is no longer adequate for the needs of the community. After years of planning, sacrifice, and fundraising, a magnificent new mikvah is nearing completion. It has been designed not merely as a functional facility, but as a beautiful and uplifting experience that reflects the dignity and holiness of this great mitzvah.
But the impact extends far beyond those already observing taharas hamishpachah.
More than 25,000 Jewish men and women live on Staten Island outside of the observant community. Many have little connection to Torah and mitzvos. Yet experience has shown that a welcoming, beautiful mikvah can become a gateway to growth, inspiration, and renewed Jewish identity. Every woman who takes that step is an eternal victory for Klal Yisroel.
Baruch Hashem, local families have already raised approximately nine million dollars toward this project. Men and women who are not wealthy have stretched themselves because they understand the significance of this opportunity.
We are now approaching the finish line.
The mikvah can be fully operational within a matter of months. All that remains is the final one million dollars needed to complete the project.
I rarely write letters of this nature. But as someone who has spent years sharing Rav Miller's teachings, I believe he would have regarded this as one of the greatest investments a Jew can make.
Buildings come and go. Programs begin and end. But every tefillah offered after immersion, every Jewish home strengthened, every child born into greater kedushah, and every mitzvah that results from this mikvah will continue generating reward forever.
The Gemara teaches that one who enables others to perform mitzvos shares in their reward. None of us can calculate the value of helping thousands of Jewish women fulfill one of the most fundamental mitzvos in the Torah. But Rav Miller taught us enough to know that it is immeasurably great.
I therefore ask you to join us in bringing this project across the finish line.
Whether your gift is large or small, you will become a partner in a mikvah that, with Hashem's help, will serve Klal Yisroel for generations to come.
May Hakadosh Baruch Hu reward all those who strengthen taharas Yisroel with abundant blessing, nachas, health, and success.
With gratitude and warm regards,
Rabbi Pinchas Wolhendler
