$180.00The Gaon Rav Yehuda Leib Weisberg zt"l, one of the most chasuve Avreichim in the Mir Yeshiva, was niftar at the young age of only 41. Over the course of a year, he struggled with the dreaded disease, and bore his suffering with simcha and in silence, continuing to focus on his Torah learning.
The pride of his father—in—law, Rabbi Dov Zupnik shlit”a, Rav Yehuda Leib would leave his home in Beitar for yeshiva at seven in the morning, and not move from his seat till midnight. Such was his practice for years and years. A talmid chacham muflag, whose hasmada in Torah never ceased.
His passing leaves a tremendous void in the Torah world.
During the last years, his gadlus reached new heights as he learned Torah amid great suffering. Even when he was unable to be home, he never stopped learning. During the time he had to be in America for treatments, his very presence in the community uplifted all its members to a new level of Torah dedication. They sometimes saw him collapsing on a bench in pain, with his eyes never leaving the Gemara.
He leaves his newly widowed wife and his distinguished family for whom he always cared for deeply. Eight young orphans—the oldest only 17, and the youngest not yet two, who could barely say “Abba” before tragically losing his father.
Those who knew him describe him as the epitome of a ben aliya:
“He was a man of Torah — having nothing else in his world. His tzadeikes wife would send him off to learn every morning, while she took care of everything else making sure nothing disturbs his learning. Now she is left with burdens, which have become far heavier without her husband, who would come home bringing light and joy into their lives.”
A special relief and support fund has been established for the benefit of the family. The tzibbur is called upon to contribute generously, so that this exceptional household may continue to thrive, that the young yesomim may be properly nourished and clothed, despite the terrible tragedy and the painful loss of their father.
