A wave of sorrow swept through our community upon hearing of the untimely passing of Reb Yosef Gestetner, of blessed memory, one of Monsey’s most cherished individuals, taken from us at the young age of 38. Reb Yosef was known to all for his rare nobility and gentle spirit. He dedicated years to Torah learning and built a beautiful family—ten bright, G-d-fearing children—instilling in them his values and love.
Beyond his home, Reb Yosef was a pillar for many. He led several institutions that published and safeguarded the manuscripts of our holy ancestors: the “Chasam Sofer,” his great-grandfathers the “Yerios Shlomo,” the “Divrei HaRash,” the revered Papa Rav, the “Vayechi Yosef,” and other luminaries and scholars. His devotion ensured that the teachings and wisdom of previous generations would continue to shine in ours.
When news of his sudden passing broke, a deep grief settled on all who knew him. Friends, family, and community members mourned together for the beautiful soul so prematurely taken. The loss is most acute for his beloved wife and 10young children, who now find themselves alone and without a provider. The pain and tears expressed at his funeral were a testament to the love and respect so many held for Reb Yosef.
Now, with heavy hearts, the entire Jewish community unites in the “Aliyahu Hashalom Campaign,” launching an Orphan Fund to support Reb Yosef’s widow and ten children. This fund will help secure their future, offering them stability and hope in uncertain times. Though their crown has been lost, we can come together to help them carry on, easing their struggles as best we can. Every compassionate heart is open. Every hand is extended. The need is great, and the merit for those who step forward is greater still.
May the merit of this kindness protect us all—that the One who brought an end to suffering will bring comfort to this family and to the entire community. May we know only good news, health, sustenance, and happiness, and soon be privileged to witness the coming of the righteous redeemer.
All those who support and assist will surely be blessed, with open blessings in every area: good health, parnassah, nachas, and all heavenly assistance.
