$18.00Write to Bring Light (this campaign page) is a fundraising campaign of Illuminate Ohr.
Every influential and impactful organization has only one beginning. Our beginning is now. Do you want to hear more about us and take part in our launch?
Let’s introduce you to our warmline! There are many phone-based support lines which girls can reach out to when they need a listening ear, but picking up the phone and talking can be impossible for many.
Staffed by compassionate frum facilitators (we never use AI), girls can email us via an anonymous email address and receive empathy, validation and support.
But most girls can’t reach out to our warmline, because they don’t know it exists!
Now imagine that you are with a group of friends and you decide to have a kumsitz mid-rain and alternate screaming, crying, laughing and even dancing.
Can you see how connection makes the world of a difference?
When a girl is struggling with mental illness, having a support system of peers who get it, to cry, laugh and even dance together changes everything.
Our first Ohr Connection programs, an online, moderated chat group and daily audio chizuk messages are mid-launch.
But most girls don’t know about the support available for them.
We also don’t yet have the funds for our further programs.
Want to see our future plans? Some will I”YH launch this year and some may wait ten years. Check out our vision map:https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1JYzPib6fj2lNsZZDnxGepJgrQmWHfRPC/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=110513380969705081509&rtpof=true&sd=true
Dream. Support. Impact.
We’re young women who know mental illness intimately and are powering our pain to lessen others.
This is the founder’s story:
Hi,
I was always looking forward to high school. I didn’t really have friends in elementary, so I was looking forward to finding my place socially, enjoying stimulating classes (especially hashkafa) and concert of course!
But OCD struck sometime in ninth grade. I didn’t know that that’s what it was called. It took a full five years to even figure out what it was. It was six years before I began getting help. It was six years of the worst torture that I can’t even describe.
Part of the reason it took so long for me to get help was because I thought that I was nuts. I didn’t realize that there was a name for it, that mental illness is treatable and not shameful, that there were so many others who could relate.
I also dealt with a medical issue and joined a support group for it. When we had a kumsitz around a bonfire, singing together with girls who got it, felt it and lived it touched such a deep place in me and created a dream I still see today of girls with mental health challenges holding hands around a fire.
I know that the strength that will be found there will keep each girl going through the hardest times.
